I love making new friends during visits to universities, libraries, museum, and archives or through videoconference. I’ve been invited to give more than 200 talks and workshops all over the world.

Some topics I’m frequently asked to speak about include:

  • The history of data
  • Gaps and omissions in data and digital archives due to colonialism and racism
  • Data ethics when working with vulnerable communities
  • Ethics of community-engaged research
  • Teaching with technology
  • Digital humanities methods and tools
  • Evaluating digital and community-engaged scholarship for tenure and promotion

A full list of presentations is available on my CV.

I work with my hosts to identify the topics that suit their needs, as well as the appropriate format(s), such as:

  • Formal talks
  • Hands-on workshops
  • Classroom visits
  • Consulting on projects, institutional initiatives, and grants
  • Informal conversations over breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee, Diet Coke, rosé, an Old Fashioned, or a visit to your campus equestrian center

I typically need at least four months’ notice for in-person events and two months’ notice for videoconference.
